URA Field Trip: Trying out the SLIM VR at the Moonshot Goal 2 Public Forum!

One day in February, we made our way to the Moonshot R&D Program Goal 2 Public Forum: From Cure to Prevention. While our project deals with Goal 3, “the evolution of AI and robots leading to the realization of robots that autonomously learn and act and coexist with human beings by 2050,” there are many other goals, and research and development is underway towards Goal 2, “the realization of ultra-early disease prediction and intervention by 2050.” This is research and development for ultra-early disease detection at the so-called pre-symptomatic stage, for example being able to detect dementia or cancer during a routine medical examination and treat it.

Now, don’t get me wrong—chemotherapy and other treatments are incredibly tough—but there is also a mental toll on the family members and workplaces supporting them since they are also providing practical assistance.

With those thoughts in mind, we left the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation Japan (Miraikan) and headed to Ginza. At METoA Ginza, you can experience SLIM, which successfully landed on the Moon, in VR! VR is fun! But I wish I could have made LEV-1 hop on the surface of the moon in VR …
